Carnelian bracelet
Carnelian was already valued as a gem and energy stone in ancient times.
In ancient Egypt it was considered a "stone of life". It was believed the carnelian could renew the vital forces and so the stone had an important role in burial rituals and as grave goods.
According to the Egyptian Book of the Dead, it was magical armor for the afterlife.
Since carnelian is easy to work with, it was used to make works of art even back then.
The oldest find, a chain, can be traced back to approx. 3500 BC. Chr. date.
Often also gems or signet rings were carved from carnelian, which mostly showed symbols of luck, protective symbols and protective deities.
Ramses II and Martin Luther wore a signet ring made of carnelian.
In the Middle Ages it was worn as protection against enchantment.
Hildegard von Bingen counted carnelian among the most important healing stones and described its effect against headaches, bleeding, coughs and colds.
